Keihoku Autumn Foliage Tour Course No. 2
This is a course that takes you around Keihoku in autumn, viewing autumn leaves at three locations while enjoying lunch and sweets.
First up is Josho-koji Temple, known as a temple associated with the Imperial family. In spring, it is famous for its cherry blossoms, but in autumn, the autumn leaves planted throughout the garden and grounds stand out against the greenery of the surrounding cedar trees, creating a striking contrast of vibrant colors.
Next, at Jigenji Temple, which houses a black-lacquered wooden statue of Akechi Mitsuhide, you will be greeted by red maples and yellow ginkgo trees.
Finally, there are the shining autumn leaves beside a swaying suspension bridge spanning the clear Kamikatsura River.

Autumn leaves in the grounds and garden of Josho-koji Temple
Joshokoji is a temple related to the imperial family, which was opened in the first year of Joji (1362) by Emperor Kogon and was devoted to successive emperors.
During the fall foliage season, the foliage planted in the garden and in various parts of the precincts shines in the green of the surrounding cedar grove, and you can see the contrast of vivid colors.
In addition, the view of the conservation area from the Sanryo Bridge over the Oigawa River (Katsura River) that flows in front of the temple gate has wonderful changes in the four seasons, and together with the gentle mountain scenery, it is suitable to be called Daiyuzan of the mountain number.

Souvenir hunting: Roadside Station Woody Keihoku
Woody Keihoku is a timber producing area, so there is a huge cedar tree towering over the interior of the store.
You can get fresh seasonal vegetables such as Kyoto vegetables, Kyoto North America grown in the clear stream, and authentic natto mochi only here as the birthplace of natto, including bento shops and bread. .The local soft-serve ice cream is also popular.
And because it is a wood town, we sell items that make use of the local characteristics, such as woodwork that makes use of the warmth of wood.
Of course there is also a restaurant.

Wagyu Beef Lunch Tokiwa
This butcher shop and restaurant purchases whole Japanese Black beef cows, is particular about the ingredients, and offers delicious meat at low prices.
The food looks very simple, but if you eat it, you will definitely smile.
The vegetables and soy sauce used in the dishes are seasonal and sourced from local farmers.
Steaks and sukiyaki that would be expensive at first-class hotels or restaurants can be enjoyed here at a very reasonable price. This is a recommended restaurant for lunch.
However, as it is a popular restaurant, we recommend making a reservation in advance.
Private tatami rooms are available by reservation only. Take-out bento boxes can also be ordered in advance.

Autumn leaves and the black seated statue of Akechi Mitsuhide at Jigenji Temple
"Shuzan Castle" is the largest mountain castle built during the Warring States period in western Japan.At the foot of the mountain is Akechi Mitsuhide, a temple dedicated to a black sitting statue painted in ink.
There are few historical documents about Akechi Mitsuhide, and he is considered one of the most mysterious warlords of the Sengoku period, but Shuzan Jigenji Temple is home to a black, ink-painted seated statue known as "Kuromitsu Daiyuson."
After subjugating Tamba, Akechi Mitsuhide ruled the region with good governance, and a seated statue was made in honour of his character and out of reverence. However, perhaps to avoid the stigma of being a traitor, the statue was painted completely black with ink and has been quietly enshrined by the people of Shuzan to this day as a secret statue unknown to the public.
Jiyokuji is also known for its beautiful autumn leaves and ginkgo.

Small autumn leaves at Uogafuchi Suspension Bridge
In autumn, you can see small but vibrant autumn leaves at the foot of the bridge.
The suspension bridge over the clear stream Kamikatsu River is famous for its considerable shaking.This suspension bridge is prohibited from running because the handrails are low.
In the summer, this area is also popular as a spot for catching large sweetfish, and during the season you can watch people fishing for sweetfish from the suspension bridge.
In spring, weeping cherry blossoms bloom at the foot of the bridge.
