There is the only natural monument of cherry blossoms in Kyoto, which is said to be 650 years old.
Joshokoji is a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect Tenryu-ji school.It is a temple related to the imperial family, which was founded by Emperor Kogon, who became the first emperor of the Northern Court in the first year of Joji (1362), after his priesthood.Joshokoji Temple has a long history as a famous place for cherry blossoms, and you can see special cherry blossoms such as "Kokonoe Sakura", "Sakon-no-Sakura", and "Mikurumagaeshi-no-Sakura".

Kokonoe Sakura
Kyoto's only natural monument cherry tree (designated in 13) Kokonoe cherry blossoms that bloom softly and beautifully are designated as the only national natural monument in the prefecture.
It is said to have been hand-planted by Emperor Kogon and is said to be 650 years old.Recently, it has been decaying and only one branch has flowers.There is a large cavity at the base. The second generation of cherry blossoms is being planted because the "Kokonoe Sakura" has decayed.The flowers bloom around mid-April.


Cherry blossoms returned to Enperor's car
The Mikurumagaeshi cherry blossoms, which bloom later than Kokonoe cherry blossoms, have a strong presence with single and double blooms on one branch.
It is said that the name comes from the fact that Emperor Go-Mizuo returned his car many times to the beauty of the cherry blossoms when he visited this place all the way after the Edo period.

Sakon-no-Sakura
This Sakon-no-Sakura, which is said to have been divided from the Sakon-no-Sakura of Gosho, also shows a beautiful appearance.The best time to see is around mid-April.
