Shuzan Castle Ruins

Akechi Mitsuhide's last castle, Zhoushan Castle, is a large-scale mountain castle made entirely of stone walls located in the Shiroyama area of Zhoushan Town.Since Keihoku, where the roads from Wakasa, Tamba, and Omi intersect, was a key point of transportation to Kyoto, it is said that this place was chosen because it can monitor the flow of people from each country. It is said that Mitsuhide likened himself to the martial arts of the warlord of the ancient Chinese Zhou dynasty and changed the place name that was Nawano at that time to Zhoushan.
Currently, there are 15 remains such as the stone wall of the Honmaru site, the blacksmith circle, and Mabase. In addition, Mitsuhide's ink-painted sitting statue is enshrined at Jiyokuji Temple at the foot of the mountain.

At the entrance to the castle, there is a piece tag with the so-called Zhoushan castle ruins.

It is said that Mitsuhide built Shuzan Castle in 1580, and in the following year he forced Oda Nobunaga to commit suicide at Honnoji Temple, but was defeated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the Battle of Yamazaki and died a violent death. I'm here.
Shuzan Castle continued to exist after that, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi seems to have visited Shuzan Castle. Because of this, it has become a valuable historical site in terms of thinking about castle construction techniques and how castles should be at that time.
