
This kaya is said to be from the 4th year of Meio (1494) when Shoboji was founded. It is over 500 years old and about 20 meters tall, making it the largest Kaya tree in the Keihoku region.

The kaya tree is located in the southwest corner of the Shoboji precincts, and the strong nebari slightly deforms the stone wall.



The Kaya tree retains its wide conical natural tree shape, and its towering appearance can be seen from a distance.It is designated as a natural monument of Kyoto City.
